Zachary Santio

    Zachary Lynn Santio, age 63, of Ft. Duchesne, passed away March 27, 2023, at his home from a heart attack.
    He was born May 3, 1960, in Roosevelt, to Lander Santio and Nema Appawoo.   He was also raised by his step-father, Woodrow Appawoo, whom he was very close to.  He married Denene A. Kane on November 13, 2014, in Vernal, Utah.
    Zachary worked as a brand inspector for the Ute Indian Tribe.  He was a fire fighter for many years.He enjoyed going to Wendover, traveling, and working with horses.   He had also been a bronc rider and excelled at Handgame tournaments which took him all over the country.  He participated in his Native traditions being a Sundancer Bear Dancer and Peyote Meetings.
    Zachary is survived by his wife, Denene, of Ft. Duchesne; his daughter, Jennifer Santio; adopted daughters, Philisha Santio, Charity Santio; step-children, Purcell (Leah) Sisto, Lanette Sisto, Kasha Sisto; 16 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; siblings Adeania Bush, Irea Santio, Wade Santio, Elizabeth (Joseph) Tapoof, Chris (Sophia) Tabbee; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his step-father, Woodrow Appawoo; parents; siblings, Joylene Reed, Woodrow Ann Appawoo, Hamilton Bush; daughter, Levitta Santio; mother-in-law, Deanna Penningjack.
    Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary.
     Following the service, he will be cremated.
