WILLIAM HARRIS
William Leany Harris, age 81, of Randlett, devoted husband “Billy”, father, grandfather and great grandfather was released from his earthly mission on January 10, 2017, due to injuries resulting from an automobile accident.
He was born in Randlett on July 15, 1935, to Lorin John and Hannah Theresa Wall Harris. He served a faithful mission to the Western Canadian mission where he met and baptized his eternal companion. He was married to Grace Yvonne Follack on November 14, 1959. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on January 9, 1961.
He lived a full and joyous life. He has a profound love for our Savior, Jesus Christ and served faithfully touching many lives serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Among his callings were Missionary, Branch President of the Randlett branch, Counselor to the Branch President, Vernal temple worker, home teacher. He had his scriptures memorized and could cite scripture and verse without ever cracking a book open. He was an unparalleled example to his entire family as well as a peacemaker. He tried to follow the Savior’s example and lived his life accordingly.
He served in the Army National Guard. He was a heavy equipment operator for road construction in the Salt Lake area. He left the city to pursue his real love of farming and ranching, starting out on the farm where he was born and raised. He had a dream of finding the lost Rhodes Gold Mines and Spanish gold so he prospected in his spare time. He had a natural gift of being able to find “things.” He was dearly loved by those he did business with, worked in the church with, and by the Native American’s in the Randlett/Ouray area, as well as his friends. He and his wife followed the Jazz faithfully and enjoyed watching as many games as they were able.
Billy is survived by his loving wife Grace, children Murray (Becky) Harris, Leslie (Julie) Harris, JoAnne (Eric) Manwaring, and Yvonne; 10 grandchildren, 18 ½ great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Elna Larue Harris, Irvin Follack, Deloris Follack, Leslie and Iris Follack.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Vivian, brothers and sisters Helen Allred, Alice Harris, Louis John Harris, and Joseph Warren “Frosty” Harris, brother- and sisters-in law Wilfred and Gladys Foisy, Doreen Follack, and Wilfred Follack.
