Vernon B Richens, age 76, of Gusher, passed away March 17, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born November 9, 1942, in Provo, to Vern Burnell “Bud” and Nial LaPreal McCurdy Richens. He married Eva Diane Starkey on December 10, 1965, in Vernal.
Vernon was a hard worker and owned and operated Richens Construction, an oil field construction company, for many years. He was also a cattle rancher and farmer, and earlier in his marriage, had run a farm that had buffalo, elk, deer, and pheasants. He enjoyed hunting and camping in his spare time, and was a very smart, good-natured man. He had been on the Board of the Uintah Water Conservancy District.
His family lovingly gave him the nickname of “Goob.” He was their rock, a good provider, a wonderful husband and father, and will be deeply missed.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diane; daughters, Trixie (Linus) Harrison, Vernal; Clarinda (Robert) Lough, Gusher; 20 grandchildren, 28, great-grandchildren; mother Nial Richens, Gusher; a brother, Cyle J Richens, Vernal; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bud; children, Tracey & Brian Richens, Sherry Melo; and a sister, Raema Carter.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ballard Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There will be a viewing at the Hullinger Mortuary on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Gusher Cemetery.
