Vernon Peterson

Vernon J Peterson, age 84, of Duchesne, passed away November 24, 2017, at the Uintah Basin Medical Center.
He was born December 27, 1932, in St. Charles, Idaho, to Charles Alfred and Delta Mary Johnston Peterson.  He married Helen Marie Gross on August 21, 1959, in Duchesne, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 21, 1995.
Vernon served in the US Army during the Korean War, being stationed in Germany.  When he returned home, he became a very active member of the American Legion.   He also cared for and was a great advocate for all Veterans and P.O.W.s, and was instrumental in establishing the Veterans Memorial in Duchesne City.
He worked for most of his life as a journeyman lineman electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, an electrician’s union.  He retired in 1994, after he was burned in an electrical accident while on the job.  In his early married days, he lived in Provo and ran an ambulance and a volunteer police group.
Vern was a welder and a finish carpenter and built trailers for boats.   Being blessed with the gift of gab, he was an entertainer, and had his own sound system which he used for any event that Duchesne City requested of him – a service which he never charged for.   He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and would help anyone in need.
Vern is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen, of Duchesne; children, TroyLynn (Micki) Heckman, Harrison, Tennessee; Jerry G. Peterson (Rebecca Milton), Lindon; Michelle (Michael) Hirst, Duchesne; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Karen Peterson; a granddaughter, Heather Lynn Peterson; and all of his brothers and sister, Alfred, Weldon, Leona, Lorne, Edward, & Don.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the Duchesne Stake Center where a viewing will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Strawberry Cemetery with Military Honors by the Duchesne American Legion and the Patriot Guard Riders.
