Val J Killian, age 71, passed through the veil to attend a joyful heavenly reunion on Sunday, July 18, 2021, after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones from both sides of Heaven.
Val was born to Clyde and Joy Killian on May 22, 1950, in Roosevelt, Utah. Being raised on a farm in Ioka, he learned to love the outdoors, hard work, and cattle.
It was on May 1, 1970, that he was sealed to the true love of his life, Gwen Dye, in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. They spent the next 50 years side by side raising their four children, Troy, Shelly, Shaunie, and Josie; 7 grandchildren, Austin, Dyllion, Makalyn, Maddy, McCoy, Brody, and Jarett; and 4 great-grandchildren, Avery, Ayden, Axell, and Brexton, all of which were their greatest accomplishments and joy.
They also started and ran a successful business, Val’s Body Shop, and a cattle ranch.
Val served as bishop to the Roosevelt 7th Ward for 5 years, where he especially enjoyed working with the youth. He also served alongside his wife in the Vernal Temple for 6 years. His testimony of the Gospel carried him throughout his life and he valued his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, always teaching his family the importance of relying on the Lord.
He was quick witted, wise, and never backed down from a good bet (which he rarely lost and never admitted otherwise). He never lived a moment in life without serving someone else and left a lasting impression on all who knew and loved him. Even until the end he kept his humor with him and gave us all a hard time. We will miss his sweet spirit beyond measure and will count the days until we can be reunited as a family again.
He is survived by his children, Troy Killian, Shelly (Roy) Murray, and Josie (Monty) Horrocks; his grandchildren, Austin (Leesa) Killian, Dyllion (Shalese) Killian, Makalyn (Ty) Brinkerhoff, Maddy (Mike) Garner, McCoy Murray, Brody and Jarett Horrocks; and 4 great-grandchildren, Avery and Ayden Killian, and Axell and Brexton Brinkerhoff.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gwen Killian; daughter, Shaunie Hogan; parents, Clyde and Joy Killian; brother, Kim Killian; mother and father-in-law, Grover and Gracie Dye; and brother-in-law, Morgan Clark.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at 11:00 AM at the Neola Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Viewings will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at the Hullinger Mortuary and on Wednesday from 10-10:45 AM at the church prior to the services.
