Terry Stephenson

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Terry Stephenson, age 66, of Duchesne, passed away on August 31, 2016, of complications of pneumonia.
He was born on July 17, 1950, in Roosevelt, to Evan Orson and Anne Veleara Belle Smith Stephenson.
Terry was a skilled heavy equipment mechanic and operator. While working for Brown and Root on the Red Fleet Dam project, he met the love of his life, Betty Jean Adams. They were married on Valentine's Day 1982.
Terry and BJ owned and operated BJ & T Enterprises, a heavy equipment mechanic service for several years. He also worked as a mechanic and operator for Nelco Construction Company for Price. When the economy slowed down in 2013 and he lost his job, his reputation as an excellent mechanic led to a job with Komatsu America Corp. as a field service technician, where he was presently working. It was a job he really enjoyed. Terry had many friends and acquaintances he met while working and he enjoyed each and everyone of them.
He was very involved in the community. He was the Assistant Fire Chief and Training Officer for the Duchesne City Fire Department for many years. He was also employed by Utah State Community College of Provo, testing and certifying many of the Utah's fire fighters. He loved to participate in the Christmas light parade earning him recognition for his beautiful floats and house decorations.
Terry and BJ loved to ride horses and were members of the Back Country Horsemen of Utah. He spent many hours cleaning trails in the High Uintah's and doing service projects for the Children's Justice Center, Boy Scouts, BLM and Forrest Service. BJ and he were committee members and trail guides for the Annual Butch Cassidy Trail Ride for many years. When BJ lost her favorite horse and it was beginning to be hard for her to ride, Terry traded their horses for a fishing boat and they spent many hours camping and fishing.
Terry loved to cook, especially in the dutch ovens - winning two dutch oven competitions. He had many friends and his wife often joked that Cowan's CafAC. was his second home. He spent many hours having coffee and visiting with his close friends.
Most of Terry's spare time was spent horse riding, camping with friends and fishing. He also enjoyed the Fort Bridger mountain man rendezvous.
He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with his daughter and his grand and great grandchildren.
He was loved immensely and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, BJ Stephenson, Duchesne; sister, Marci Whitaker, Heber City; a daughter, Shelly (Tracy) Butcher, Rock Springs, WY; a step-son Jerame Adams, Vernal; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Joseph Evan Stephenson and a son, Les Stephenson.
