Sonja Henie Apporas Wopsock, age 78 , passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, January 30, 2023.
Sonja was born on February 4, 1944, in Fort Duchesne, Utah to Carrie Chase
Thompson and Ray Apporas. Sonja was the oldest of nine sisters and two brothers, caring and loving all of them. Throughout Sonja’s working career she worked in several departments for the Ute Tribe for 35 years. In 1963 Sonja married Delna Floyd Wopsock and had six kids of there own.
Sonja was a giving, caring, loving mother, sister and grandmother. She enjoyed beading for herself and grandkids. Sonja had the patience to crochet and scrapbook. She loved to listen to her favorite jams from Northern Cree and could never give up watching her western movies. Sonja’s adventurous spirit took her traveling to many places that she enjoyed to go but always ended back at her beloved mountains. Through her whole life Sonja never passed up a moment to laugh and enjoy spending time with her family and friends
Sonja Wopsock is survived by her children, Sal Wopsock, Braxton Wopsock, Mary Wopsock, Shelia Brown, Delnaleen Wopsock, Zipporah Apporas; grandsons; Acelino and Rayne Murray; siblings, Nancy Thompson, Catherine Manning, Vivian Taveapont, Jane Taveapont and Raymond Taveapont and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Del Wopsock; siblings, Greg Taveapont, Ingrid K. Wopsock, Rosemary Thompson and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Whiterocks Episcopal Church. A wake will be held after 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at her home.
Burial will be in the John Harmes Cemetery.
