Sherman J. Sorenson, age 89, of Roosevelt, passed away December 2, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born January 15, 1927, in Ioka, to Abraham and Olive Winget Sorenson. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed mostly in Japan. He was very proud to be a veteran and, upon his return from service, he immediately signed up with the American Legion, being an active member for over 60 years.
He married Dolly Priscilla Bird on August 25, 1951, in Salt Lake City. She died in August of 2009.
Sherm was a very hard worker and always provided for his family’s needs and most of their wants. He was a lineman for Moon Lake Electric for over 35 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing & hunting when he was younger, and took great pride in his yard. One of his favorite pastimes was watching the many hummingbirds who frequented his feeders.
He was a very loving, caring, quiet, strong, and awesome man who had a great sense of humor – even to the very end. His grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids were the light of his life.
Sherm is survived by his children, Maria (Jacob) McQuiston, Linda (John) Madsen, both of Roosevelt; Susan Pedockie, Magna; Ann Boren (Keith Phillips), Salt Lake City; Ruth (Bruce) Anderson, Roosevelt; Jay (Debbie) Sorenson, Columbia Falls, MT; Brenda (Keith) Babcock, Vernal; 25 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and 32 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly; sister, Olive Lapreal Sorenson; brothers, A.V. & Glen; half-sisters, Melba Larsen, Beatrice Alexander, Mildred Fausett, half-brothers, Dean and Wesley Washburn.
Funeral services will be held at the Roosevelt LDS Stake Center, 447 East Lagoon Street, on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. There will be a viewing on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park with military honors by the Roosevelt American Legion #64, the Utah Honor Guard, and the Patriot Guard Riders.
