Scott Dewey Hirschi, age 89, peacefully returned home to his Heavenly Father on April 15, 2025, in Roosevelt, Utah.
Scott was born on March 7, 1936, and married the love of his life, Carma White, on September 16, 1959, in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, they built a beautiful family: Kristine, Karl, Kevin, and Kerrilyn, and is now lovingly reunited with their son Kenneth, who passed away in infancy. Scott was a proud and devoted grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed spending his time with family in the outdoors camping, fishing, hunting, boating and more. He loved to travel and was able to experience many foreign countries. His exuberance to explore began in the Zion plains of Southern Utah herding cattle and fishing along the Virgin River. In his own words "When the high flood water would come, the water was muddy, and it was time to fish. The rainbow trout would surface, so we were able to run along the river grabbing and throwing them up on the bank. Then choose the size of fish we wanted to take home to mother for a fish fry."
His love of sports and academics led him to CSU on a baseball scholarship and then on to Utah State University where he met his eternal companion and later graduated with a degree in education. As a dedicated educator, Scott taught industrial arts, health, and physical education. His playful spirit and genuine care left a lasting impression on countless students over the years. Having taught at Roosevelt Junior High for 34 years he finally "graduated."
After his years in education, Scott became self-employed, running a wrecker in partnership with his son's auto body shop. A skilled mechanic and natural problem-solver, he loved spending time in his personal shop, fixing anything with an engine. If anyone asked Carma where he was, she'd say, "He's in the shop, pulling the guts out of something."
Scott was always only a phone call away ready to offer help to anyone, regardless of what he had going on. His life was a quiet testimony of service, kindness, and unwavering faith. Alongside his beloved Carma, he served four missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: one in New Zealand, two seasons at Heber Valley Camp building cabins, and finally at the institute in Roosevelt.
He had a kind word for everyone, never complained, and lived to serve others. Scott will be remembered as a man of deep love, humble strength, and faithful devotion to his family, his community, and his Heavenly Father.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Scott is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carma, of Roosevelt; children, Kristine (Steve) Clement, Washington; Karl (Debbie) Hirschi, Neola; Kevin (Angela) Hirschi, Coalville; Kerrilyn (Garrett) Murphy, Roosevelt; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Peggy Canfield; Orall (Beverly) Hirschi; Marelo (Carol) Hirschi; sister-in-law, Marie Hirschi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth; his parents; and his siblings, Tren Hirschi, Birrell Hirschi, Emma Smith; and son-in-law, Daryl Miles.
