Ruth Price Barton, age 84, of Roosevelt, formerly of Kaysville, passed away September 15, 2017, at the Uintah Basin Sr. Villa surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 14, 1933, in Ogden, to John Wesley Price and Edna Blodgett. She graduated from Weber High School in 1951. She married James Townsend Palmer Jr. in the Logan LDS Temple. They had a family of six children together and after twenty years of marriage they divorced. She later married Dale Layton Barton, he passed away January 3, 2003.
Ruth was a determined and hardworking woman. While raising her children she went back to college. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree at Utah State University in 1967. After teaching elementary education for a few years she received a Fellowship to return to college and earned her Masters Degree in Special Education in 1970. She had a true love for the children she served and taught in the Special Education Program.
Ruth was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served three missions: The California San Diego Mission in 1982, The New Zealand Temple Mission in 1990-91, and The Chicago Temple Mission in 1992-93. She also served as a temple worker for many years in the Los Angles California Temple. These were some of the most meaningful and special times of her life. Her faith grew and became an absolute knowledge that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church and that Jesus is the Christ. She wanted to share this with all of her family and friends. She loved her family and treasured all of the times she could be with them. She always treated them with her homemade pies and cookies. She always had baked goodies on hand to share with those whom she served.
At the age of 65, Ruth began showing signs of Alzheimer’s. For the next 19 years she suffered through the loss of memories, speech, sight, dignity, and so many other hardships. During all of this time her family always knew she loved them, what she stood for, and that she had an unwavering testimony.
Ruth is survived by her children, Ted James (Ann) Palmer, Westin, ID; Carolyn Palmer, Idaho Falls, ID; David Townsend Palmer, Draper, UT; Janice Palmer, Ogden, UT; Margaret (Dwayne) Davies, Duchesne, UT; 19 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Charles “Chuck” (Sherma) Price, Kaysville, UT; Lewis (Zelda) Price, Batesville, AR; Alice (Leland) Pitts, Payson, UT; and numerous nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Donna; her husband, Dale; her parents; and a brother, Thomas Clair Price.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at 12:00 noon at the Duchesne 1st and 3rd Ward LDS Chapel. There will be a viewing that morning at the church beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kaysville Cemetery, 500 Crestwood Road, Kaysville.
The family wishes to sincerely thank all of those who served Ruth so lovingly at the Villa. Their service will not be forgotten!
