Rozanne H Ellis, age 81, a beloved resident of Duchesne, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the Sr. Villa, surrounded by her family.
Rozanne was born in Salt Lake City on June 29, 1937, to Bonitta Mae Jordine and Golden Sevell Hammer. She was one of five children. As a young girl she spent many years living in Strevell, Idaho with her grandma, Rosetta Jordine. She spoke fondly of her time there helping in their family owned gas station. Growing up she enjoyed roller skating and going to the drive in movie.
On September 23, 1955 she married Gifford Allen Peterson, they shared 14 years of marriage and five children together. They later divorced. She married Lynn Juchau Ellis on May 20, 1981. They enjoyed 22 years with each other, and he died March 16, 2003.
Rozanne was admired for her strength as the family matriarch. She loved cooking, sewing, embroidery, and genealogy. Her most cherished time was spent with family and friends and her many years of service with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a foster grandparent at Duchesne Elementary for 17 years.
She owned and operated the Nebco Gas Station in Duchesne. She had the honored title of the “Mayor of the Blue Bench”, helping to acquire power, water and paving to the Blue Bench area.
The family would like to thank the Sr. Villa for their loving care of Rozanne.
She is survived by her children, Jeff (Ronda) Peterson, Cindy Mecham, Bonnie Peterson, Julie Nielsen, all of Duchesne; step-son, Bruce (Michelle) Pickering, South Jordan; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sisters, Carol Campbell, Salt Lake City; LaRee Hoyte, West Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lynn, son, Gordon Peterson, brothers, William & Steve Hammer, grandson, Jeremy Peterson and an infant great-great-grandson, Kane Peterson.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Duchesne City Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. at the Duchesne Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
