Ron Joseph Garcia, Jr., age 50, of Duchesne, passed away July 28, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family after a short, but brave fight with cancer.
He was born September 21, 1965, in Ventura, California, to Laura Moraga Garcia. He served in the United States Army and upon his return from Germany, while being processed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma he met fellow soldier and soon to be wife, Victoria Lynn Gross. They were married October 30, 1986, in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Ron had a passion for horses and was an accomplished reigning horse trainer and competitor. He enjoyed teaching people and horses how to compete. His training company was called "Rising Sun Horse Training Services" and he owned and operated a trucking company called "Rising Sun Trucking Company." He was well respected and liked by everyone he met and he loved his family, friends, and horses.
During the last couple of months, after the cancer was discovered, he fought hard and yet always had compassion for others and their feelings.
Ron is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Victoria; a daughter, Breann & son-in-law, Russell Morris; grandchildren, Adell & George Morris; mother, Laura Liggett; sisters, Ronda Garcia, Christina Ferrer; mother-in-law, Janice Gross; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Michael Gross, Donna Davis, Holly & Joe Schwarz, Mark & Amy Gross, Tom Rakoczy; aunts, Goldie Borille, Janel Bassinger, Gloria Trett; and his horses, Amir & Cisco.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Butch Liggett; sister-in-law, Brenda Rakoczy, and father-in-law, David Gross.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary with a viewing one hour prior to the services. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 64.
After the services, he has chosen to be cremated and his ashes will be scattered.
