Roma Parkinson Koning, age 89, of Sandy, passed away February 16, 2017, peacefully at her home of causes incident to age.
She was born June 15, 1927, in Beaver, UT to George Arnold and Aretta Gunn Joseph Parkinson, the 6th of 8 children. She married Vaughn Aerial Funk September 1, 1952 (later divorced). She married Albert Raymond Koning May 30, 1980. He died March 14, 2010.
Roma enjoyed gardening and flowers, cleaning, entertaining, sewing and socializing. She loved walking several times a week at the mall with her good friend Gene while visiting with her buddies over coffee. Special thanks to Gene, Elda and Cece for their friendship and kindness which helped her to live healthy and independent until her passing. Roma was lucky enough to enjoy the skilled and loving care of her daughter Tami in the last days of her life.
Roma is survived by her daughter, Tamara (Mark) Gunderson, South Jordan, UT, and Al’s children; Mike (Peggy) Koning, Las Vegas, NV; Robyn Koning (Rod Kwaczynski), Holladay, UT, Karen Manning, Holladay, UT; Carolyn (Drew) Egan, Gilbert, AZ, and Cindy Koning, Salt Lake City, UT. 24 Grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and a sister, Joan (Harold) Hickman, St. George, UT.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Al, two great-granddaughters, Savannah and Madison Salisbury, brother, Foch; sisters, Annabelle, Josephine, Itha, Myrl, Donna, and son-in-law, Mark Manning.
Roma specifically requested no viewing, no funeral and no black. We will have a short memorial service Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the reception room of the Rosegate Apartments, 9206 South 700 East in Sandy. Her cremated remains will be placed in the Murray City Cemetery Friday February 24th at 11:00 am.
At Roma’s request, in lieu of flowers, please plant daisies in her memory.
