Roberta Kathryn John

Roberta Kathryn Grant John, age 85, of Ft. Duchesne, passed away April 25, 2022, at the Uintah Basin Medical Center.
    She was born October 10, 1936, in Ft. Duchesne, to Kneale and Ethel Wash Grant.  She married Hamblin John and he later died.
    Roberta had worked as a counselor at an alcohol rehabilitation center for the Ute Tribe, a cook for the Headstart, and was a nurse at the old hospital in Ft. Duchesne.  She was an excellent Handgame player and traveled all over the Western United States competing in Handgame tournaments and attending Pow Wows.  She enjoyed gambling, watching old movies, and had a good sense of humor that got her through many hard times.  She was very sweet, always smiling, loved her family and friends, and was a strong, independent, selfless, and giving woman who was there for all of her children and grandchildren.  She was their rock, and her big heart will be greatly missed.  
    Roberta is survived by her children, Michael (Jaunna) Mills, Towaoc, Colorado; Valena Nhuy, Ft. Duchesne; Maribeth Mills, Robert Taveapont, Dawna Taveapont, all of Richardson Subdivision; 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Hamblin; children, Tamblin Mills, Sean John, Morgan John; grandson, Kneale Mills Bullethead, Sr.; a sister, JoAnn Wash; and her parents, Ethel Wash and Kneale Grant.. 
    Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ft. Duchesne Community Building.  There will be a wake after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at her daughter Dawna Taveapont's home in Richardson Subdivsion.
    Burial will be in the Ft. Duchesne Cemetery.
