Richard Mountain Sr., age 71, passed away on September 22, 2015 at his home in the Richardson Subdivision.
Richard was born October 21, 1943 in Ft. Duchesne to James and Sarah Colorow Mountain.
He graduated from Duchesne High School. His family lived in Utahn on the family ranch. During his earlier years, his family moved to the Indian Bench.
He married May Lee Noble. Through the years he held various jobs, including an Appellate Court Judge, which was under the direction of the late Henry Upchego, manager of the Bottle Hollow gas station, he attended the police academy in Brigham City and in New Mexico and after graduating becoming a Ute Tribe police officer, was a truck driver for Duane Hall Trucking, and was a Ute Tribe fish and wildlife officer.
His hobbies included, fast and fancy cars, restoring old cars with his sons, riding horses, fishing, hunting, collecting guns, drawing pictures of cowboys and warriors, and listening to the music from the 50's and 60's.
Richard had a wonderful sense of humor and was always joking. He spoke the Ute language fluently. His words were to the point and when he shared his opinion, people listened. He loved his Indian people and the ranch was his favorite place to be.
He is survived by his wife, May Lee Mountain, sons, Richard Mountain, Chris Mountain, Jerrod Mountain, sisters, Arlene Appah, Sylvia Cornpeach, nieces and nephews, Thomasina Appah, Margaret Cornpeach, Terry Appah, Doug Appah, Eric (Dandrea Dora) Appah, Eddison (Robyn) Lyman, Dandrea Dora, grandchildren, Sarah Reede, Kim & Shawndi Appah, Tacha, Danielle &Harley Lyman, great grandchildren, Gracelyne Blackhair, Lillie Romero, and Ava Watts.
He was preceded in death by Chief Colorow, Chief Blackhawk, his parents, sisters Violet, Leila, and Daisy Mountain and brother Louis Mountain.
Funeral services held on Saturday, Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ft. Duchesne Gym. A wake will be held at his home after 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
Burial in the Ft. Duchesne Cemetery.
