Rachel Thomas Neilsen Henderson, age 94, of Roosevelt, passed away April 19, 2016, surrounded by her family at home.
She was born October 10, 1921, in Duchesne, to Thomas Benjamin and Elizabeth Jane Merkley Thomas. She married Woodrow Wilson Neilsen Sept. 12, 1941, he later died in a farming accident. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 12, 1952. She married Chester Elmer "Chet" Henderson January 13, 1955. Chet died December 11, 1992.
Rachel was a hard worker all of her life - with a little help, she upholstered her last chair at the age of 90. She owned and operated "Chet's Upholstery" for over 55 years. She had also worked as a seamstress, cut hair, and did laundry and ironing for people. She was a great cook, she kept an immaculate house. She enjoyed working in her yard and traveling. She and Chet spent a lot of time traveling around the western states racing horses. She loved to collect porcelain dolls. She liked to draw, her specialty was birds and deer. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving because her family was all together. She loved her family, especially her grandkids, and looked forward to her family reunions.
She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and had served in the Vernal and Provo Temples as an ordinance worker.
Rachel is survived by her children, Kathy Scott, St. George; Diana (Leonard) Mecham, Riverdale; Brent Woodrow Neilsen, Moab; SueAnn (Lex) Smith, Logan; Charles "Chuck" (Debbie) Henderson, Phoenix; Jeffory Ben (Carol) Henderson, Roosevelt; 33 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Darlene and Ann Thomas.
She was proceeded in death by her husbands, Woodrow and Chet; son, Nolan Ray Neilsen; sons-in-law, Bruce Green and Charles Scott; grandsons, Cody B. Green and Jeffory Levi Henderson; great-granddaughter, Hope Jenny Henderson; a great-grandson, Taylor James Henderson; and siblings, Alden, Dave, Elmer, Ray, LaVon Thomas, and Afton Bromley.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 25, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the Roosevelt LDS Stake Center, 447 East Lagoon Street with a viewing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park. Condolences may be shared at www.hullingermortuary.com
