    Olivia Gallegos Herrera, age 90, of Duchesne, passed away September 24, 2023.
    She was born September 20, 1933, in Coyote, New Mexico, to Prescliano & Sidelia Martinez Gallegos.  She married Rosenaldo “Ross” Herrera on May 26, 1951, in New Mexico.  In 1954, they made Duchesne, Utah their home to raise their family.
    Olivia worked as a cook for over 25 years at Cowan’s Café.  She was a very passionate about cooking and made delicious tortillas daily.  Her enchiladas and fried potatoes were the best amongst many other dishes.  She worked very hard, and seldomly sat down.  She was an amazing homemaker and took care of everyone.  If you went to visit, she made sure you were fed and felt loved.  She enjoyed visiting family in New Mexico and stopping at casinos to gamble along the way.  In her younger days, she enjoyed dancing with Ross and good friends, Don & Liz Martinez.  Planting flowers and making quilts were some of her favorite pastimes, and she took great pride in dressing well and making sure her home was tidy every day.
    She was a member of the Catholic Church and prayed nightly. She loved her family more than anything; her kids and grandkids were her whole life.  Although she had so many tragedies in her life, she endured to the very end.  She was deeply loved and will be missed dearly by so many.  
    Olivia is survived by her husband of 72 years, Ross; her children, Virginia (Robert) Bailey, Duchesne; Ida Herrera, Price; granddaughter, Kristi (Johnny) Johnson, Bluebell; who she raised as her own, 6 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Carlos, Ed, & Alemin Gallegos, Olviana Martinez, Arsenia Chacon, Reosinda Maestas; sister-in-law, Mary Martinez; niece Teresa (Mike) Arellano; and numerous other relatives.
    She was preceded in death by her children, Rex, Rowlley, Rose, Sadie, Rusty, Lee Harris; brother Alfred Gallegos & sister, Elizidia Garcia, brother–in-law, Mateo Garcia.
    Funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Helen's Catholic Church in Roosevelt.  The rosary will begin at 10:30.    Following the service, there will be burial at the Duchesne Cemetery.
