Norma Mecham

Norma June Ellis Mecham, age 86, of Montwell, passed away May 2, 2015, at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 22, 1929, in Ogden, to Harold C and Clara Strobelt Ellis.  She married Melvin V Mecham on September 1, 1945, in Roosevelt, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 25, 1958.  He died November 5, 2007.
Norma was a gifted seamstress and became well-known for the beautiful pieced and hand-stitched quilts she made for family, friends, and donated to the annual Mecham reunion.  As a young mother, she sewed most of her children’s clothing, western shirts for Melvin, and various projects from cheerleading outfits to stuffed Care Bears for their grandchildren.
While living on the Wasatch Front, Norma used her sewing expertise at Fashion Fabrics, and the Cotton Shop.  She also worked at Deseret Pharmaceutical in Sandy for several years.
Norma and Melvin retired to the Montwell area in 1982, after raising their family of six children in Murray.  They often wintered near Overton, Nevada, and became summer camp hosts at Flaming Gorge.
Together they raised miniature poodles and Boston terriers, and enjoyed the association of the family and friends cultivated from their early years in the Uintah Basin.
Norma is survived by her brother, Ray Ellis, North Carolina; her children, Shirley Thomas, Midvale; Maxine (Ross) Larrabee, Riverton; Lynn (Liana) Mecham, Montwell; Debra (Earl) Nelson, West Haven; Ray (Cheryl) Mecham, Montwell; and Val (Jean) Mecham, West Valley City; as well as 24 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Clara; a brother, James Ellis; and her husband of 62 years, Melvin.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at 12:00 noon, at the Roosevelt Memorial Park.  There will be a viewing at the Hullinger Mortuary on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and from 11-11:45 a.m. Wednesday.  Condolences may be shared at www.hullingermortuary.com
The family would like to thank Chris Livingston, CNA, with Aerie Home Health Service, who lovingly cared for Norma for the past two months, as well as UBMC Hospice care givers who assisted in the past week.  Your love, reassurance and sensitivity during this trying time was much appreciated.
