Nile M Chapman, age 92, of Roosevelt, passed away August 23, 2024, at the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah
He was born February 29, 1932, in Heber City, Utah, to Joseph and Melba McAfee Chapman. Being a leap-year baby, he took great pride in the fact that he had really only had 23 birthdays. He served in the United States Navy and was always proud of his military service. He was very active in the American Legion.
Nile married Ranae Stevenson, on October 14, 1954, in Las Vegas. They were sealed September 13, 1973 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died December 5, 2017.
Nile was a hard worker who’s work ethic was above reproach. He always believed that if you were going to do something, it should be done right the first time without cutting corners. This applied to how he worked and how he played. He owned and operated Nile Chapman Construction as well as various other businesses. In his younger days, he played basketball, raced snowmobiles, and really enjoyed cutting a rug with Ranae. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, traveling all over the world, including two trophy hunts in Africa, and spending time in Las Vegas and Alaska. He was a good provider and made sure all were taken care of.
He took the utmost happiness in his grandchildren furthering their lives. He supported and encouraged them going to school, and wanted to hear their stories of learning. He was genuinely proud of them and sung their praises to others often.
Nile waited for no one and nothing, big or small. He was not indecisive. He liked what he liked and you weren’t going to change his mind, all the way down to his daily order at the Frontier Grill, or how rare his steak was (usually still mooing).
He knew how to tell a story with shock factor, whether he knew it or not. From stories of hunting from Alaska to Africa, to stories of raising his children and grandchildren with Ranae near the Drive Inn in Roosevelt, all were equally as special to him as were the people he told them to.
Nile is survived by his children, Roger (Ann) Chapman, Cedarview; Teri (Glen) Kirkpatrick, Parump, Nevada; Alan (Amy) Chapman, Alpine; he also adopted his daughter, Nila’s, children after she was in a tragic airplane accident and helped raise, Paige (Kalani) Galbraith, Spanish Fork; Stephanie (Kolt) Boren; Jonathan (Marcela) Asay, both of Roosevelt; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joann Kohler, Alene Watson, Karen Crook; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ranae; his daughter, Nila Asay; sister, Beva Maxwell; and grandson, Darius Asay.
