Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend, Neil H Bingham, age 75, passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2025, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Neil was born on July 21, 1949, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Melvin H Bingham and Glenda GeNeil Halverson. He was the second of five children, and the first son, joining his older sister Lynn, and later his siblings, Jon, Becky, and Lloyd. The Bingham family primarily raised their children in Neola, Utah, where Neil grew up working hard on the family farm, instilling in him a love for the outdoors, determination, and a relentless work ethic.
Neil was a passionate athlete from a young age. His love for sports, especially football, began early, and he quickly excelled in multiple sports, including football, basketball, track, and softball. At age sixteen, he was honored with the “Most Valuable Player Award” for All-Church Softball. He was deeply involved in sports and student government during high school, and his athleticism led to multiple college scholarship offers. Ultimately, Neil chose Brigham Young University, where he played football for four years while studying Wildlife Management. After graduation, Neil proudly served in the Utah National Guard for six years and embarked on a 33-year career with the Utah State Division of Wildlife Resources.
Neil’s life was rich with love and devotion to his family. In 1969, he married Debra Dean Berrett, and together they had six children: Toni (DeVere Hunt), Stephanie, Blake (Faith McCann), Steven (Janae Simmons), DeNeil, and Staci (Todd Piquet). His love for his children and grandchildren was unwavering, and he leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Neil is also survived by his wife, Debby; his siblings Lynn, Jon, and Lloyd; and many dear friends whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Becky, and his daughter, DeNeil.
In his professional career, Neil worked as a Conservation Officer, where his love of people served him well. Often, after issuing tickets, individuals would thank him and shake his hand for his kindness and fair approach. His work earned him accolades, including Wildlife Officer of the Year and Outstanding Employee of the Year.
Neil’s true legacy, however, lies in his ability to make everyone around him feel like a friend. Whether at work, in his church callings, or at home, Neil’s sense of humor and genuine interest in others made him a beloved figure. His membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and relationship with the Savior were of great value to him. He had a special place in his heart for children and served many years as a Scoutmaster, Bishop, and Young Men’s President. He was always dedicated to serving others, often sacrificing his time and energy for the benefit of those around him. In his later years, Neil loved serving in the temple and as an Addiction Recovery Missionary.
Neil’s passing has left a hole in the hearts of many, but his legacy of kindness, love, service, and devotion will continue to bless the lives of those who knew him. He was a man of integrity, humor, and deep faith; his impact on the lives of others will never be forgotten.
