Mia Janetzy Slim, age 13, of Midland, Texas, formerly of Roosevelt, Utah, passed away July 10, 2024, from injuries sustained in an accident.
She was born July 14, 2010, in Roosevelt, to David and Jennifer Murrieta Slim.
Mia had a heart of gold and was an amazing daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, tía, and friend. She made sure everyone was kept in line and was the “mother hen” to her family. She had a way of bringing the family together in a way that no one else could. She was very shy when you would first meet her but as you got to know her, you would absolutely fall in love with her and she was your friend/protector for life. Our girl showed so much compassion for everyone in her life. She was a friend to all, and made sure those who were down, felt comfort and those who needed help, their burdens were eased.
Though she struggled in some subjects at school, she always worked so hard and was an excellent student. If she wasn’t getting an award for perfect attendance, she was getting awards for straight A or A/B Honor Roll or for just being kind. She had a passion for drawing and was quite talented; it was a passion she shared with her brother. She also LOVED baking and cooking! On the weekends, she would always be cooking something delicious with her dad (it was their thing) and her baked goodies were one of our favorite things to eat-she was always baking some kind of new yummy treats for us to try. One of her biggest dreams was to either own a food truck or open up her own café one day. She enjoyed camping, spending time with family and friends, and doing anything that involved water! She was her brother’s protector and #1 Fan – they were the very best of friends.
Life will never be the same without our sweet girl but we are going to figure it out together as a family because that’s what she would want for us! Her favorite thing to tell her family on a daily basis was, “Love you, family” and we will continue saying this to each other in her honor.
Mia is survived by her parents, David & Jennifer Slim; siblings-Aiden Slim, Jade Slim (Mario Castillo); her dog, Teddy Ruxpin Slim; maternal grandparents-Joaquin & Amelia Murrieta; paternal grandparent-Ilona Slim; aunts and uncles-John (Stana) Slim, Roosevelt, Athenya (Jeremy) Swain, Ft. Duchesne, Celia Jeishel Murrieta, Las Vegas, Johanna Murrieta, Las Vegas, Joaquin (Rocio) Ruiz Murrieta, Jannelle (Mavricko) Murrieta; niece, Stella Slim and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Johnny Slim, her uncle Sonny Slim and her beloved dog, Oso.
