Mary Afton Jensen Rogers, of Randlett, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2017 at the Utah Valley Intermountain Hospital in Provo at the age of 97.
She was born on March 3, 1920 in the Ouray Valley to William Wallace and DeLila Winn Jensen. After losing her mother at the young age of 15, she helped her father raise her four brothers during her teenage years. During her childhood they lived on a farm where she helped her father and brothers ranch and raise cattle.
She married her sweetheart Ivan Rogers on July 23, 1943, and they had two daughters, Denese and Judy. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 18, 1969. Together they built their own farm and ranch and raised cattle.
Afton enjoyed gardening where she grew vegetables and amazing flower gardens. She also loved farming, horseback riding, and was an avid reader. She had a love of music, and spent many hours singing songs handed down from her family. She was a storyteller and she kept her friends and family enthralled. She was a great dancer and never missed an opportunity to let her husband swing her around the dance floor. She was a terrific cook and made wonderful meals to feed her family and neighbors. Most of all: she loved her family!
Afton is survived by her daughters, Denese Farnsworth, Gusher; Judy Hogan, Randlett; six grandchildren; RaJette (John) Fillingim, Show Low, Arizona; Tina LaRose Roosevelt; Sherry Hogan, Parachute, Colorado; Terry (Spring) Hogan, Randlett; Genia (Travis) Roberts, Vernal; Ramey (Tex) Atkins, Oregon; 23 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Virgil Jensen, Salt Lake City; Van Jensen, Riverton, Wyoming; and Stan Jensen, Salt Lake City
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ivan Rogers; mother and father; siblings, George Jensen, Marie Howarth, Ed Jensen, Lynn Jensen; sons-in-law, Ward Farnsworth and Lonnie Hogan.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Randlett LDS Chapel. There will be a viewing on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and on Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Church.
Burial will be in the Leota Cemetery.
