Marva Jean Holmes Mathisen, age 79, of Bennett, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2020 at her home.
Marva was born May 12, 1941 to Nile William and Evelyn May Starck Holmes in Vernal, Utah. She married Wendell Louis Mathisen on December 14, 1962. They were sealed in the Provo Utah Temple November 1974. They were blessed with 4 children. They started their married life in Vernal and eventually moved to Myton where they lived until moving to Bennett in 2012.
Marva will always be remembered for her various handmade gifts especially the quilts that she embroidered and quilted by hand. The kids and grandkids always looked forward to getting a quilt from grandma every Christmas. Marva loved having her grandkids around and would show her feisty attitude when Wendell would tease them. Marva served on the Humanitarian Board in the Myton LDS Ward and Wendell and she served a service mission at the Bishop’s Storehouse in Roosevelt and as Building Coordinators. She worked as a cook at Chicken Time, Fort Myton and UBMC cafeteria.
Marva is survived by her husband Wendell; children, Nile (Annette) Mathisen, Ballard; Marla (Shane) Fellows, Elko, NV; Wendell Evan (Christy) Mathisen, Bluebell; Brenda (Stacey) Cook, Randlett; 18 grandkids and 12 great-grandkids; siblings, Ernie (Linda) Holmes, Carlee (Phil) Boyles, both of Vernal; Leora Stewart, Roosevelt; Dwayne (Leann) Holmes, Doyle (Tammy) Holmes; sister-in-law, Jeff Holmes, all of Vernal. Wendell’s siblings, Virginia (Ivan) Hall Neola; Willard (Judy) Mathisen, Logan; Gwen (Jim) Penfield, Neola; Blondell Bingham, Hurricane; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, Chester and Esther Mathisen; brother, Gary Holmes; grandson, Michael Shriver; sister-in-law, Mary Rider; brothers-in-law, Doyle Bingham, Bryce Wamsley, Ervin Hadden, Vernell Stewart and Morris Jenkins; nephews, Wade Mathisen, Chris Stewart and Justin Holmes.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2020, at 12:30 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary with a viewing from 11:30 am - 12:15 pm. Burial will be in the Ioka Cemetery.
