It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, father, uncle, and friend, Martin Brogaard Hansen Wind. Martin departed peacefully early Sunday morning with a smile on his face, February 25, 2024, at the age of 59, after bravely battling COPD with unwavering humor and determination. His resilience and gratitude towards those who supported him during his illness illuminated his character and touched the lives of all who knew him.
Born on March 3, 1964, in Murray, Utah, to Werner Hansen Wind and Karla Sonja Jensen, Martin was the cherished youngest of nine siblings. His early years were marked by a spirit of industriousness, working alongside his family in their grocery store and gas station in South Jordan before moving to Fairview, Utah. A couple of years later, Martin joined his older brother, Erik, in Salt Lake City. Under Erik’s guidance, Martin learned the trades of painting and the strategy of golf.
Martin enlisted in the Navy at the age of 18 and was stationed aboard the USS Kitty Hawk.
On July 10, 1987, Martin married Kathe Khoury, embracing the role of a loving stepfather to her children, Adam Harmon and Jamie Rayl. Though their paths diverged after 32 years of marriage, Martin and Kathe remained close friends, sharing daily conversations that spanned a lifetime of memories.
Martin's zest for life was epitomized by his love for the outdoors—whether camping, boating, or riding dirt bikes—and his passion for golf, gardening, and festive family gatherings. His affinity for music and canine companionship, particularly with his beloved dog, Leo, brought him immense joy and solace.
The depth of Martin's impact is reflected in the enduring friendships he cultivated, fondly referred to as "his boys," who stood by his side until the end, offering unwavering support, laughter, and cherished reminiscences.
In the embrace of his loving family, Martin now joins his father, Werner Hansen Wind, half-brother, Karsten Jensen, and half-sister, Ulla Hansen, in eternal peace. The Hansen Wind family extends heartfelt gratitude to Adam and Kathleen for their devoted care and companionship throughout Martin's journey.
Martin is survived by his loving mother, Karla Sonja Hansen Wind, and his siblings, Tove Pillgaard, John Hansen, Erik Hansen, Irene Christiansen, Linda Kerecman, and Mona Peterson. His absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of his cherished friends and family.
In honoring Martin's memory, may we find solace in the cherished moments shared and the enduring legacy of love he leaves behind.
