Martin William Brotherson

Martin William Brotherson, age 85, of Boneta, passed away November 14, 2017, at the Uintah Care Center.
He was born July 17, 1932, in Boneta, Utah, to Christian Darwin and Jennie Jessen Brotherson at the home of his grandfather, William Lehi Jessen and his grandmother Iris Velira Snyder.
Martin married Lorna Jean Cook, of Price, on August 27, 1951, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Martin’s first job was at ZCMI in Salt Lake City as a wholesale delivery driver, and Lorna was employed at St. Mark’s Hospital at the time.
Soon the couple moved back to Martin’s beloved Uintah Basin where he worked as a lineman for Moon Lake Electric Association. When the opportunity came for them to purchase the Henry & DeLaine Tidwell ranch in Boneta, Martin and Lorna were thrilled at the chance to fulfill Martin’s life-long dream of owning his own ranching operation. Martin worked a dual career of operating, along side his wife Lorna, the beautiful and productive Bar-B-Bar Ranch, and after his work with Moon Lake Electric, became an employee of Uintah Basin Telephone where he worked for 35 years. There he fulfilled roles as a Lineman and later a Central Office Technician. Martin also served as the General Manager for 13 years. In 1988, Martin and employee Duane Hamblin gained approval from the Board of Directors to participate in the FCC's cellular spectrum drawing. This decision would eventually make the Uintah Basin Telephone one of the premier cellular providers in the state of Utah. Martin was instrumental in furthering the growth of the company and promoting new technologies that were forthcoming.
Of Martin's many goals and aspirations in life, nothing was more important to him than loving and serving his Heavenly Father and his family. He had a beautiful testimony of the gospel and showed it from his early years to the end of his life. He worked in Ward and District Scouting positions, on Elder’s and High Priest's Quorums, as High Councilman, as a member of the Bishopric, and as Bishop of the Moon Lake Ward. He also was an ordinance worker in the Vernal LDS Temple for 14 years. As husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, his dedication to and pure love for each of his family members will carry us together through the eternities. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Martin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lorna, and their five daughters: Vicki (Nolan) Larsen, Pleasant Valley; Joan (Jeff) Goodrich, Altamont; Mindy (Eugene) Jenson, Talmage; Amber (Jo) Gardner, Vernal; Jennifer Hall (fiancé, Jeff Zobell), Vernal, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Chris (Carol) Brotherson, Salt Lake City; Jimmy (Virginia) Brotherson, Boneta; sisters, Janet (Kent) Williams, Vernal; and Nan (Danny) Cottle, Rio Rancho, NM.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bert (Kathlyn) Brotherson, sister, Dorothy (Clark) Morris; and a great-granddaughter, Kristen Jean Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lake Fork Ward LDS Chapel in Moon Lake where a viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 17, and on Saturday from 1:00 -1:45 p.m. preceding the service.
Burial will be in the Altamont Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.hullingermortuary.com
