Marquita Pope Slaugh, age 40, of LaPoint, passed away February 8, 2015, at the Ashley Valley Medical Center in Vernal after a long illness.
She was born August 30, 1974, in Vernal, to Mark Dean and Arlisa Iorg Pope. She married William Slaugh and they later divorced.
Marquita’s greatest joys were her children and her music. She started violin lessons when she was seven years old, and performed with the orchestra all through school. She taught violin for several years and her crowning achievement was performing with her children and the orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She was loving, kind, funny and enjoyed playing games with family and friends. She loved animals, especially her dogs, and loved to laugh. Throughout her illness she was always optimistic.
Marquita is survived by her children, Dakota Dean Slaugh, Melynda Lynn Slaugh, both of LaPoint; Josie LaRae Slaught, Texas; parents, Mark and Arlisa Pope, LaPoint; grandparents, Arlys (Beth) Iorg, Hannah; Clora Whitehead, LaPoint; a cousin who has been like a sister, Tanya Hackford Powell; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Arza Ephraim Pope, and Marie Dee Greenland.
She was taken to her grandmother, Clora Whitehead’s home in Lapoint on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, for a wake.
She was cremated following the wake.
