Marjorie Tavashutz

Marjorie Ankerpont Tavashutz, age 65, of Indian Bench, passed away September 10, 2016, at the Uintah Basin Senior Villa after a long battle with cancer.
She was born March 9, 1951, in Vernal, to Roy Jay Ankerpont Sr. and Clara Tahreep-Santio Ankerpont. She married Adelbert Tavashutz on November 29, 1968, in Whiterocks.
Marjorie was a strong woman who worked hard. She retired after 40 years, from service of the Ute Tribe. She enjoyed camping, fishing, quilting, sewing, taking pictures everywhere she went, and, of course, gambling. She was an excellent cook and was an organizer of get-togethers and parties. She was an avid traveler, often taking trips to the Black Hills in South Dakota to visit the ancestral burial grounds at Thunder Butte. She went all over to attend Pow Wows and Sundances. It was on a trip in 2005 to Washington DC that she first felt the pains of her cancer. She never complained and was always "ready to go."
Marjorie is survived by her husband, Adelbert, of Indian Bench; her children, Trisha Tapoof (Darren Cuch), Lapoint Road; Lucien Earl Tapoof, Sr., Indian Bench; Kaci Tavashutz, Roosevelt; Makila (James) Murray, Indian Bench; Tia-Anna Tavashutz, Roosevelt; step-daughter, Antonette Porambo; 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; brother, Roy (Linda) Ankerpont, Jr., Randlett; sisters, Geneva Ankerpont, Roosevelt; Joliet (Alvin) Ignacio, Ft. Duchesne; uncle, Kenneth Santio; aunts, Gertrude Tahguv and Shirleta LaFramboise; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Patrick Thomas Montes; brothers and sisters, Florence Mills, Arden Post, Raquel Ice, Elliot, Gene, Steven Ankerpont, and two infant siblings.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ouray-Tabbee Cemetery. Per her request there will be no viewing or wake. Also she had requested that instead of flowers, please donate to the Uintah Basin Hospice Care.
