Marian Francetta Winkler Monsen, age 96, of Hyde Park, Utah, formerly of Altamont, passed away November 20, 2021, at the Autumn Care Assisted Living Center in Hyde Park.
She was born May 6, 1925, in Bluebell, to Ira William and Mamie Lloyd Winkler. She married Grant Orsen Monsen on March 1, 1944, in the Salt Lake Temple. He died March 25, 2000.
Marian was a hard working homemaker who could figure out how to do everything and anything that needed to be done – she was still hanging sheet rock in her eighties – and she helped out on the farm, driving the tractor and the buck rake. She lined her property with all of the rocks she’d pick up while planting and caring for her amazing garden, which usually had some experimental plant (ex. peanuts and popcorn) that she was able to get to grow. She was very independent and only asked for help if she couldn’t do it herself.
She enjoyed crocheting doilies, making blankets for all of her grandchildren, and whistling everywhere she went.
She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings, one of her most cherished working with her husband in the Provo Temple and then later in the Vernal Temple. She loved being with her family and will be very missed.
Marian is survived by her children, Sarah Ann (Paul) Topham, Pleasant Grove; David Monsen, Herriman; Marie (Virgil) Pugsley, Hyde Park; Dorine (Gary) Eberhard, Blanding, UT; Rudy (Julia) Monsen, Altamont; Judy (Brent) Winters, Otto, WY; Jerry (Ranae) Monsen, South Jordan; daughter-in-law, Susan Monsen, Fountain Green, UT; 45 grandchildren, 145 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant; sons, Dwight John & Rowen; parents, Ira & Mamie; son-in-law, Lee McDaniel; daughter-in-law, Sharon Monsen; grandchildren, Trudy, Loren, Bryan, Ella, Robert, Darrell; brothers, Lloyd, Keith, & Jaye; great-granddaughter, Larissa Ward; great-grandson, Keith Winters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Altamont Stake Center. There will be a viewing that morning from 11:00 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the Altonah Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the Autumn Care Assisted Living Center and their staff for the kind and caring way they took care of Marian.
