Luanna Wood Chapoose

Luanna Rhea “Loni” Wood Chapoose, age 68, of Ft. Duchesne, passed away December 28, 2022, in Salt Lake City.
    She was born October 11, 1954, in Salt Lake City, to Robert Newell and Beverly LaVern Maybee Wood.  She married Ernest L. “Ernie” Chapoose on August 17, 1970, in Elberta, Utah.   He died April 14, 2020.  She loved and missed him so much after his passing.  
    Loni had worked, in her younger years, as a social worker for the Tribal people of the N’Sklallam Nation in Northern Washington area.  She was a mother to everyone, taking in many foster children, and making sure all were well cared for.  She and Ernie had the Double Arrow Social Club in Ft. Duchesne where they hosted bingo and a dinner, which she enjoyed making for everyone.  
    Loni was a great storyteller, enjoyed attending Pow Wows, collected many knick knacks, liked bowling in her younger days, and was an avid reader.  She had a big heart and she will be missed by all.
    Loni is survived by her children, Eli (Ena) Chapoose, Cindy (Ron) Wopsock, Kelly (Amanda) Chapoose, Gerald (Leighann) Chapoose, all of Ft. Duchesne; Tara (Steve) Cline, Renton WA; Melody (Michael) Daddy; Georgia (Brandon) Tanner, Salt Lake City; Kelly (Anna) Johnson, Indiana; grandchildren, Savannah, Dakota, Orest, Uintah, Eathlynn, Redbear, Cedar, Kaylee, Wilbur, Preston, Tiffany, and Whitley; great-grandchildren, Ernest, Carma, Zaylee, Tristan, and Donovan; siblings, Delia Wood, Washinton; Frank (Margaret) Wood, Idaho; Joseph Wood, Ft. Duchesne; sisters-in-law, Lorena Writingbird, Loraine Wood, Regina Wood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; granddaughter, Karlie Renwick; siblings, Bobby, Bill, & Ila Ray Wood; parents, Robert & Beverly; and in-laws, Marietta Reed, Nathaline Santio, Haskell Chapoose, Ina Lou Chapoose, Gertrude Willie, William Chapoose, Ernest Chapoose, Lynn Chapoose, Earl Albert Chapoose, Gloriann Chapoose.
    Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary.  
    Burial will be in the Ouray - Tabbee Cemetery
