Lonnie Kay Boren

Lonnie Kay Boren, age 75, of Roosevelt, passed away February 3, 2018, at the Uintah Basin Medical Center from a sudden heart attack.
He was born February 17, 1942, in Montwell, to Cecil Lee and Velma Leah Smuin Boren.  He married Lana Jeane Gardner on August 2, 1961, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 10, 1965.
Lonnie worked as an oilfield mechanic for most of his life.  He never took a sick day, even if he needed one.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and being in the mountains on a horse.  He had a great talent for carving wood, and was a great story teller.
He was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was currently serving a full-time stay-at-home mission where Lana and he were constantly serving and visiting members of their ward and stake.  He really liked his many years of serving as an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple.
Lonnie loved and adored his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, and always followed all of their sports and other activities.  He was their hero!
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lana Jeane, of Montwell; children, Bruce Boren, Montwell; Sandy Kay (Bryan) Taylor, Montwell; Mark (Janine) Boren, Vernal; Kathy Jeane (Shane) Mecham, Rangely, Colorado; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Gwenna (Neldon) Slaugh, Kent (Nita) Boren, both of Vernal; Johnnie (Debbie) Boren, St. George; Jimmie (Kelly) Boren, Vernal; Mike (RaNae) Boren, Roosevelt; Ellen (Wayne) Watkins, Vernal; Cecil Lee (Elaine) Boren, Monarch; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jerry Dale Boren; sister, LaRae Bristol, and an infant granddaughter, Launa Boren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at the Neola LDS Chapel.  There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and from 10-10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in the Neola Cemetery.  Condolences may be shared at www.hullingermortuary.com
