Laurie Dawn Patterson, age 51, of Ft. Duchesne, passed away December 19, 2024, at St. Mark’s Hospital.

 She was born July 12, 1973, in Roosevelt, to Arthur Gene Patterson and Carmelita Longhair Jack. 

 In her younger years she was a fancy dancer and she danced at Bear Dance, played basketball & softball, and attended Sherman Indian School and Uintah High School. She was currently enrolled at USU-Uintah Basin and was working towards a degree in Social Work so she could speak for the Indian Youth. 

 Laurie was Miss Ute Tribe 1994-95 and tried out for Miss Indian World. There she met many young ladies from different tribal nations and some became her sisters. 

 Laurie’s favorite hobbies were word search books, fill-in puzzle books, gambling, going to bingo, and doing Diamond Dots. She attended Pow Wows in the US & Canada, Bear Dances, Sundances, 49's, & Round Dances. She loved to sing back-up to her brothers & nephews, “The Red Spirit Singers” & “The Boyz” from St. Paul, Minnesota, and other drum groups. During her travels to Pow Wows, she met many people which she became their aunt, sister, and grandma. She participated in the Ute Fashion Show in Ignacio & Towoac, Colorado, and on the U&O Reservation. She also participated in the Utah Utes Football Half-time Entertainment. Laurie loved traveling with her sister, Jen, to INFR, NFR, Cowboy Christmas, Florida, Oklahoma, Oregon, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming and many other states. 

 Her favorite teams were the Boston Red Sox, Oklahoma Sooners, and the Utah Utes. She enjoyed watching TV shows, especially “Friends” and “Big Bang Theory,” rodeos, PBR, and liked to attend concerts. Laurie was a regular participant at the annual Shoshonean Reunions.

 Laurie took pride in her Ute Culture & Traditions and language. She learned to pick chokecherries & buffalo berries, and drying deer meat from her mother. She made bone necklaces, was a beadworker, made the best raisin, pumpkin, cherry, & apple pies, and sugar cookies. She was a seamstress. 

 She was a great supporter to her cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, & family members at Pow Wows, Bear Dances, & all their sporting activities and was a great supporter to her niece, Denise, when she played basketball and to her niece, Boydee, in her wrestling duels and tournaments. All the girls on the wrestling team called her “Auntie.”

 Laurie was a member of the Native American Church, was a talented beadworker and made many beaded medallions and rope necklaces. She loved being around her family, relatives, friends, and joked around and laughed with everyone. She raised her nieces as her own, Denise, Boydee, and Arya. She had a special place in her heart for therm.

Duchesne; Blair Wanna, Elaina Vassar, both of Bismark, ND; Lola Smith, Myton; adopted siblings, Bart (Quanah) Powaukee, Carlo (Iris) Chimburas, Quanah (Silvermoon) LaRose, Hokie Clairmont, Jamie Farmer, Roman Farmer, Rusty (Tiffany) Cozad; aunts & uncles, Gilbert Gardner, Belynda Wanna, Troy Gardner, Bernie Shoyo, Patricia Argo Shoyo, Maxine LaRose, Marita Stacey, Zedora Enos, Torrie Nephi, Madeline Martinez, Luke Duncan, Jackie (Jerry) Tapoof; special nieces & nephews, Denise (Willy) Kenton, Boydee Gravatt, Arya Swiftbird, Odien Jack, Marcella Jack, Red Sky Chimburas, Brad Ware Sr., Mitchell Baker, Billy Pewo Jr., Gary & Glen Drapeau; cousins, Troy Gardner, Lelilah Longhair, Charlotte Longhair, Tetona Longhair, Bradford Longhair, Montie Longhair, Dexter Tindore, Ernie, Todd, & Rayfield, Williams Appenay; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, and other relatives. 

 She was preceded in death by her parents; step-dad Robert Jack, Sr.; grandparents, Laura Nephi, Harry Todd Longhair, Rachel Serawop, Lee Patterson; adopted parents, Butch and Vivian Powaukee, Joseph and Verla Farmer; nephews, Marshall Jack, Russell Cozad Jr., niece, Beauleah “BJ” Farmer; uncles,, Alvin Longhair, Willard Gardner, Frank & Andar Shoyo, Clayson Longhair, Leo Patterson, Wilford Wanna; aunts, Alta Appenay, Ruth Ellen Cuch, Doreen Colorow, Jackie Lee, Isabelle Chapoose, Linda & Lenore Shoyo, Joann S Hurtado, Alice Jones, Hanna Santio, Esther Wyasket, Audrey Patterson, Julia Ice; grandmas, Lottie Shoyo, Ruby Atwine, Betty Atwine, Lorena Atwine, Ruth Nephi, Molly Brown Wyasket, Daisey Patterson; grandpas, Fernando Nephi, William Wyasket; adopted brother and sister, Margo Powaukee Kanip, Little Bear Watson; cousins, Victor Large, Lester “Chachee” Chapoose Jr.; Brenda Drye, Ileen Drye, Berlinda Cotonuts, and Rossie Longhair.

 Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Ft. Duchesne Community Building.

 A wake will be held on Friday evening after 4:00 PM at the Carmelita Jack Residence in Ft. Duchesne.

 Burial in the Ft. Duchesne Cemetery.
