Lalisa Taveapont, age 55, of Ft. Duchesne, passed away June 8, 2022, at the Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City from kidney failure.
She was born January 11, 1967, in Roosevelt, to Reid Smoot and Marie Carolyn Cuch Taveapont.
Being deaf since birth, she attended and graduated from the Utah School for the Deaf and the Blind. She was very independent and stubborn.
Lalisa was a talented drawing artist and enjoyed taking selfies. She was loved by everyone and was very friendly. Everyday she would get on Facebook and say “Good-Morning” to everyone. She enjoyed attending Pow Wows, Sundances, and Bear Dances, and just being with people. She could often be found with her best friend and co-hort in crime, Clarinda. She loved her daughter and granddaughters very much and her extended family was very important to her.
Lalisa is survived by her daughter, Annie Taveapont (Daniel Martinez), Ogden; granddaughters, Vanessa & Brooklyn Powell, and one on the way; siblings, Berdeena Ann Taveapont, Franklin Taveapont, Sr., and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings, Clifford Cornpeach, Aaron Lee Cornpeach, Eleanor Cornpeach, Pansy Nephi, Sandra Taveapont, Venita Taveapont, Lola Summers; Eldora Bush, Lynette Grant, and Floradeena Taveapont.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the Ft. Duchesne Community Building. She will be taken to her home in Ft. Duchesne for a wake on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
Burial will be in the Ft. Duchesne Cemetery under direction of the Hullinger Mortuary.
