Kelly Roll

Kelly Wayne Roll, age 55, of Duchesne, passed away July 19, 2015, at his home after a long battle with cancer.
He was born July 17, 1960, in Elgin, North Dakota, to Allen Gene and Ione Helen Oster Roll. At Duchesne High School, Kelly was an all around athlete, excelling at baseball, football, basketball, and track. He graduated in 1978.
Kelly was an extremely hard worker. He worked in the oilfield all of his life, as a roughneck, a driller, and at the end, owned and operated KR Servicing, which is a contract pumping company. During that time, he was also a Field Therapist with "Second Nature", a wilderness therapy program. He loved working with the kids and helping them turn their lives into something positive. His favorite part of that was helping build and improve the trails in the mountainous areas they did their therapy in. His favorite pastimes were riding horses and playing golf, especially in the API Tournament every year (where there was often a club thrown or even broken). He enjoyed dancing the two step.
Coaching was an especially important part of his life, because he could not only watch the sports he loved, but help his children, and other kids gain skills that are learned through being involved in sports. His children meant everything to him and he would do anything for them. When he was battling cancer several years ago, he would get up at 2:00 a.m., go to his radiation therapy, and then to work so he'd be done in time to watch his children's events. He always tried to make everyone happy, and his tough exterior was really just that - he was a softy on the inside- but he did let you know where he stood on everything. His nieces and nephews thought he was the best uncle that ever walked the earth. He was very loved and will be deeply missed.
Kelly is survived by his children, Celena Roll (Willy Moon), Centerville; Kendal (Nik) Osiek, Vernal; Zach Roll, Roosevelt; grandson, Korter Moon; parents, Allen and Ione Roll, Dunn Center, ND; brothers and sisters, Norma (Richard) Bauer, Westhope, ND; Brad (Jan) Roll, Lyman, WY; Darcy (Jim) Wardell, Wells, NV: Kirk (Crystal) Roll, Dunn Center, ND; brother-from-another-mother, Korey Abbott, Duchesne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence & Eleanor Roll; and Herbert & Helen Oster.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Duchesne 1st and 3rd Ward LDS Chapel. Visitations will be held on Wednesday at the Hullinger Mortuary from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Cremation will follow the services.
