Karen Jean Sursa, age 61, of Cedarview, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 13, 2016.
Karen was born October 19, 1954 in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Jerry Ray and Reba Kathleen Freeman Cowan. She was raised in Perryton Texas, she met and married Kenneth "Heavy" Sursa on March 23, 1970, in Liberal, Kansas, they later divorced.
Karen was fondly known as "Mama", and later as "Nan". She was the most amazing Nan! Her grandkids were her life and joy. She tended the youngest ones each day while their mother worked and delighted in the time she spent with them. Each grandchild and great-grandchild knew they were loved and how special they were. She had a great sense of humor, an unique laugh, a wonderful southern drawl, and everyone she met was a friend. She loved to watch softball and even though she is no longer here she won't miss Shaycee's first T-ball game.
She is survived by her daughters, Sammi (Matt) Fillingim, Myton; Brandi (Cleveland) Murray, Cedarview; grandchildren, Lyndi Cox, Dewy Fillingim, Dirk Fillingim, Bradee Murray, Shaycee Murray, great grandchildren, Marli Gene Cox, PresLynn Cox, with one more on the way, and her brothers, Phillip Mark Cowan, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; and Curtis Boyd (Shelli) Cowan, Springtown, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Reba, and her brother Jack Cowan.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roosevelt Memorial Park.
