Julie Ann Brown, age 58, of Ioka, passed away October 5, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer.
She was born November 1, 1957, in St. George, to Clare Fenwell and Rose Madora Petersen Hansen. She graduated from Dixie High School in 1976.
She married Richard Sherwin Brown on July 10, 1976, in St. George and were sealed in 1979 in the St. George LDS Temple.
Julie really enjoyed being in the outdoors. She was an avid hiker and worked as the hiking guide for the Red Mountain Health Resort in St. George for over 10 years. She really enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and helping them change their lives. Her hiking adventures took her to many places all over the western United States She has scaled Mt. Whitney, Mt. Timpanogas, the Narrows in Zions, and gone from rim-to-rim in the Grand Canyon - a distance of over 20 miles - in one day . She had also run the St. George Marathon, twice, and completed the Boulder Outdoor Survival School. Her other passion was gardening and landscaping, and she found great joy in sharing her harvest with others. When her husband was driving truck over the road for 2 A½ years, she traveled with him, covering over 36 states.
She had a great love and firm belief in the Savior and the scriptures. She taught primary for many years and was a Den Mother in Cub Scouts.
She loved her children and grandchildren, and often encouraged (sometimes strongly) them to go hiking with her.
Julie is survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard, Ioka; children, Matthew R. (Jessie) Brown, Taylorsville; John Eric (Michelle) Brown, Santa Clara; Rebecca Ann (Justin) Cowley, Sacramento, CA; Joel C. (Brooke) Brown, San Jose, CA; grandchildren, Bronson, Presley, Porter, Lincoln, Everett, & Archer Brown; Ty & Ava Cowley; brothers and sisters, Darrel Hansen, St. George; Irene Lister, Washington; Gene Hansen, Cedar City; Mary (Ammon) Brenay, Hinckley; Larry (Madeleine) Hansen, Hurricane; Robert (Palma) Hansen, St. George; Charles (Lolene) Hansen, Orem; Danny (Rocinda) Hansen, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clare and Rose; in-laws, John Lister & Gale Hansen; nieces, Jackie & Lisa Lister, and Olivia Hansen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Myton LDS Chapel. There will be a viewing on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the Veyo Cemetery on Monday, October 10, 2016, at 10:00 a.m.
