Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, JoyLeen Potts Clayburn, passed away on July 3, 2021 at the age of 89,
Joy was born on June 15, 1932 to Percy and Novella Carrell Potts, who she loved and adored.
Joy grew up in Upalco, where she loved her hometown and the people that lived there. Her youth was filled with happiness and fun memories. She graduated from Altamont High School, where she was a cheerleader, student body officer and a loyal school member. Shortly after graduating high school she married her sweetheart Reed Clayburn in the Salt Lake Temple on June 5, 1950. They were married for 69 years. He died November 15, 2019.
Joy was a dedicated mother of four children, Amy (Redge) Palmer, Gary (Debra) Clayburn, Ann (Roger) Chapman, Cherie (Len) Frandsen, 17 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. She cherished her family and calling as a mother above all.
She worked hard to magnify and share her many homemaking skills with her family. She was an excellent bread maker and known for her Thanksgiving stuffing. Each year Joy looked forward to holiday celebrations and hosting large family dinners. She loved family history and genealogy.
Joy spent hours preparing books for all of her children and grandchildren filled with memories of their ancestors. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She treasured her testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ. Over the years she was called to serve in many church positions, including Primary President, Young Women’s President, a teacher in all of the auxiliaries along with being a devoted ministering sister.
Joy prioritized countless hours of letter writing each week. Her words of encouragement have changed the lives of missionaries, church members and friends. Joy was hard working, loyal and a loving wife to Reed. They enjoyed all of God’s beautiful creations and spent many nights admiring the beautiful sunsets and sounds of the geese with their children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 siblings, and her loving grandson Dee Clayburn.
As a family, we thank our friends, and neighbors, during this time, especially our Home Health and Hospice friends.
