John West

April 14, 1954 — April 6, 2015

John West

John Scott “Skinny” West was born April 14, 1954 in Salt Lake City, and he was welcomed home to the loving arms of his mom; Phyllis Cracroft West and his dad; Donald Elmer West on April 6, 2015. He passed of natural causes, peacefully but unexpectedly in his home.
John was the fourth of nine children born into a boisterous and loving family. He was preceded in death by his mother and father as well as brothers Donald Ben, Michael Richard and Robert Caboose and a sister Jackie West Huddlestone.
John is survived by his two sons; Dennis (Jenni) West, Vernal; Ryan West, Coatsville, PA; and sadly two beautiful grandchildren, Daultin and Gracie West who he considered his greatest gifts in life.  John is also survived by long time partner Kelly Callahan, Ramona, CA; sisters K.B (Clay) Thompson, Duchesne; Susan Purdom (Larry Josewski) Myton; Judy (Juan) Amillategui, Roosevelt; brother, Steven Jay West,
Alaska; as well as many adoring nieces, nephews and extended family members-- too numerous to mention by name. You all know who you are.
Most of John's career was in construction. As a young man he learned that he had a gift. He could fix, invent or build just about anything he put his mind to. He was a perfectionist who had so many skills that came so naturally to him. He was rough on the outside but a great man with a soft heart. John would do anything for anyone in need. He loved to party, camp, 4 wheel, hunt, fish, cook, and work. In his youth he moved around a lot, but he eventually settled near his family in the Uintah Basin. He was most happy when he was with his children and grandchildren doing just about anything. He loved to tell stories about their accomplishments. If you knew John, you know he was loud and funny, but was very gentle and sensitive. He loved to shock you with his crudeness, but was so kind, generous and loving. John could be hurt easily and found it hard to forgive, but if you were ever mad at him, it wouldn't last long. He just had to look at you with those puppy dog eyes. He is loved by the many people who knew him. His life deserves remembering, his laughter can still be heard if you listen closely.  We will always remember John Scott “Skinny” West with love.
Memorial services were held at the Tabiona LDS Church on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. A later celebration of John's life will be announced as soon as dates can be secured. Please watch Facebook for details.
