Joey Lee Boren, age 33, formerly of Montwell, Utah, passed away at his home in Cedar Hills, Utah, from injuries previously sustained in a hard fall.
Joey was born December 10, 1991, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Lucky J. and Meitra Jeanne Boren. He is the oldest of their 3 kids.
He spent his younger years growing up in the Uintah Basin, where he played baseball & always looked forward to "mutton bustin" in the Neola rodeo. At the age of 4, his sheep was so intimidated by the young cowboy, that he laid down right out of the gate and wouldn't move again. Joey left the arena, frustrated & kicking rocks, knowing that had his sheep performed they surely would have won!
After the passing of his father in 2001, at the tender age of 9, Joey became "the man of the house", a role he took very seriously. At the age of 10 he moved to the Wasatch Front with his mom, sister, & brother. To the day he passed, he was always checking in with them, making sure they were ok and giving them advice on things that were going on in their lives.
Joey was friendly, likable, & quickly made friends wherever he went.
In spite of him being a true “Boren” and causing his share of mischief, he had a very serious and matter-of-fact, mature nature about him, and from a very young age, you could tell that he would do big things in this life.
He quickly mastered anything and everything that he tried, including skateboarding, snowboarding, skiing, cycling, & a more recent found passion of fly fishing.
His passion for technology and coding started at a very young age. While in his early teens, he reverse engineered an iPhone UI and was able to develop his own version. He was able to license his UI in multiple countries and sold it worldwide for several years.
He was a 2010 graduate of Cottonwood High School.
He married Ashlie Bowen on September 15, 2017, and they later divorced.
He spent the last 13 years working in Tableau Development, SQL, & business intelligence.
He began his professional career at Mitchell Pharmacy Solutions as an Informatics Analyst. While there, he worked on various projects that earned him the 2016 MVP award, as well as an employee of the month recognition.
He later became a Tableau Consultant and a Business Intelligence Analyst, where he was able to hone his skills in data visualization and analysis, & was able to work with clients across multiple industries and domains.
In January 2023, he joined Nike. If you know Joey, you know this was his dream job! He was a Sr. Tableau developer & data engineer. While there, he built internal and external reports using Tableau and various other databases. He was always eager to learn new technologies and tools that would help him enhance his work & help him deliver value to his team and company.
Joey fought hard and overcame many hardships in his short lifetime. He was a go-getter. “Can't” was not in his vocabulary. If he dreamed it, he achieved it. He kept the things that brought him joy and happiness close in life.
He was a very loved and an important part of our lives & because of his passing, we are heartbroken.
Joey is survived by his momma, Meitra (Jerremy Richens); sister, Kelsey Lynn; brother, Robby Wayne, all of Roosevelt. Aunts and uncles: Sharrol (Kim) Anderton, Montwell; Duane Jr. (Glenna) Boren, Montwell; Terry (Cory) Christensen, Myton; Mary (Kim) Blanchard, Montwell; David (Cheryl) Boren, Montwell; Brianna (Jason) Heimel, Canyon City, Colorado; a nephew, Ryder West Boren, Salt Lake City; numerous cousins, & also a multitude of friends, who quickly became family.
He is also survived by his beloved huskies, Koda and Nala.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lucky J. Boren; grandmothers, Donna Cook & Sherron (Boren) Givens; & grandfathers Duane Boren, William Cook, & Lamar Givens; and an uncle, Tracy Monks.
