Patty Joan Christensen Potter, age 79, of Myton, passed away January 14, 2025, in her home surrounded by family.
Joan was born to “Lucy” De La Luz Quintana Christensen and Earl Marion Christensen on March 30, 1945. She was one of ten children, born in Talmage, Utah, a place that forever had her heart.
Joan married Gail Nixon Potter on January 2, 1963. They gifted the world with four amazing daughters, Cindy, Colleen, Gaylene, and Joann. Her girls were her first impactful legacy, and through each of them we get wonderful reminders of her. She immensely loved each of them unconditionally and was fiercely proud of each of them.
Combined, Joan had 46 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, with a heart big enough for plenty more. She was a proud grandmother, loving every one of them individually, always keeping up with their lives. She gifted them all with unique experiences and memories that they will forever carry throughout their lives.
Joan ran Fort Myton for over 30 years with pride, dedication, and a selflessness that surpassed all. Her business was not just her livelihood, but a foundation for so many meaningful relationships. She loved her community and did everything for anyone, including giving the shirt of her back if needed. Joan influenced her family and employees by teaching them life skills, entrepreneurship, and a sense of independence. She inspired all the people who worked for her to be strong, impactful individuals who loved to serve their community alongside her. Fort Myton was not only her work, but her home, imprinting on all her children and grandchildren. Joan was truly an icon and a matriarch of her community.
Joan was a proud member of the Myton Legion Auxiliary and Myton City council. She loved embroidery, quilting, and sewing. She enjoyed skilled competitive bowling. She was the ultimate Utah Jazz fan! She loved to travel. Joan loved playing the piano, listening to country music, and going to concerts with her sisters, daughters, and close friends (especially George Strait).
Joan is survived by her daughters, Cindy Baker of Casper, WY; Colleen (Kevin) Rasmussen of Myton, UT; Joann Despain (Zach Koyle) of Vernal, UT; son-in-law, Russell Gilson, West Valley; her two sisters, Bonnie Willson, Myton, UT; Marsha Knight, Erda, UT; and 40 of her 46 grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Gail, her parents, Earl and Lucy Christensen, Lawrence and Elma Potter, her daughter, Gaylene, and grandchildren, Angela and Jake.
The world has lost a woman that walked this earth with a caliber of grace and love that could never be matched. She was a blessing to all. To know Joan was a gift, and to love her was priceless.
