Joan J. Lucero

    Joan Joyce Lucero, age 84, of Whiterocks, passed away February 4, 2025, at the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo.
    She was born June 13, 1940, in Ft. Duchesne, to Casper and Rhoda Arhi Poowegup.  She married Fred Lucero on January 14, 1961, in Elko, Nevada, and he died March 31, 1990.
    Joan was a housekeeping manager at the Bottle Hollow Resort in her younger days. She traveled all over Indian Country on the “Handgame Trial,” where she made lifetime friends. She was a tough pointer and hider and her songs were the old ones. She taught the games to her grand kids and her legacy will be carried on.  She was an avid reader, her favorite show to watch on TV was Law & Order, and her favorite place to be was Whiterocks.  
    She loved to be with her children and grandchildren, they were her world.  
    Joan is survived by her daughters, Angelina Lucero, Sunshine Acres; Christine Lucero, Alterra; grandchildren, Jacinda, Jaron, Steven, Kendra, Tyrell, Dakota, & Maylene Lucero; Raechell (Lyndell) Poleviyaoma; Richard (Jodi) Brimhall; Tyson Post (Presta); Melinda (Bobby) & Kristi (George) Murray; Carwin Reed Jr.; Damon Garfield; Alison Pargeets;      great-grandchildren; siblings, Ginger Ridley, Frances Poowegup, Nancy Reed, all of Whiterocks; Richard (Joline) Poowegup, Ft. Duchesne; Deanna Poowegup, Whiterocks; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.    
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; son, Fredrick Lucero; parents; siblings, Gary, Albert, & Homer Poowegup; Barbara Mart; and Beth Kakinowash.
    Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Whiterocks Community Building.  There will be a wake at the community building on Friday after 4:00 p.m.
    Burial will be in the John Harmes Cemetery in Whiterocks.
