JC Bussell, age 87, of Roosevelt, passed away February 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born January 18, 1937, in Carlisle, Kentucky, to Goebel and Elizabeth Sapp Bussell. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for three years. He was honorably discharged July 9, 1962.
He married Zola McKay on February 10, 1961. Together they raised five children and spent 28 wonderful years together in Grantsville, UT. She died February 12, 1989. JC never remarried and spent 35 years missing her but was beautifully reunited with her on Valentine's Day.
JC worked for many years at the Tooele Army Depot as a heavy equipment operator during the shut down and as a security guard. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and tending to his yard. He had a knack for buying broken down things, fixing them up, and then reselling. He had a love for guns: he talked about them, traded them, shot them, and collected them. He was an avid pool player winning multiple competitive pool tournaments (though, he could be beaten by his daughter-in-law, Kim, every once in a while). He spent the winters on his property, in the warmth of Yucca, Arizona, where he really liked to search for gold and other treasures. JC was a coin collector, and over his lifetime acquired a collection he was very proud of. But what he was most proud of were his children and grandchildren, he never missed an opportunity to brag on all of their accomplishments. Most Sunday's he could be found at his son Keith's home enjoying dinner with chaotic entertainment from roughly 15 of his great-grandchildren!
He'll be sorely missed - "See you in the funny papers, Gramps."
JC is survived by his children, Carol (Paul) Hanson, Pleasantview, UT; Annie (Gary) Brown, Weiser, ID; Kevin (Marlo) Meno, Grantsville; Keith (Kim) Bussell, Gusher; 19 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren with three on the way; son-in-law, George Wootton, Grantsville; a sister, Shirley Jean Mitchell, Carlisle, KY; sisters-in-law, Pauline & Betty Bussell; many nieces and nephews; and his constant companion, his dog, "Rocky."
He was preceded in death by his wife, Zola; his daughter, Mary Wootton; a great-great-grandchild; his parents; siblings, Rector, Elgin, Floyd, Harold, Harvey, Orah, Georgia, Corine, & Gladys; son-in-law, Kent Hunsaker; grandson, Steven Riddle; and parents-in-law, Alex & Ophelia McKay.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary. There will be a viewing on Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
