Jason Reay Sims, age 42, of Roosevelt returned home to his Heavenly Father on December 10, 2017 surrounded by family. Jason was born to the late William “Bill” and Sherry Sims.
When Jason came to this earth he came in a broken body. He was born with a congenital heart and lung defect. He had open heart surgery within hours of being born, and has a scar from chest to back that he wore with a badge of honor. And while his body was broken and struggled to work, he was blessed with a stubborn spirit. A spirit fierce and ready to fight. Not expected to live 42 minutes, he fought the good fight, and we were lucky to have him with us for 42 years. His short life truly was a miracle.
Those that knew Jason knew that his heart was big in service to others. He was quick to offer a friendly smile and a hello. He loved having conversations with those in the community and showed genuine concern about their well-being and happiness. He graduated from Union High School. He loved helping and enjoyed keeping stats for the sporting events. He loved attending all sporting activities, even years beyond the time his siblings played for the Union Cougars.
Jason was a symbol of hope for anyone struggling, always willing to show compassion and understanding to anyone that needed it. Through his life-long health trials, he never complained about his health. He never asked, "Why me?". His positive attitude is an inspiration to many.
He loved being Uncle Jason to his nieces and nephews. They always knew how much he cared for them. He loved being Papa and was so proud to tell anyone that would listen about being a Papa at such a young age. His grandkids brought him so much joy.
He is survived by his wife Melinda, Grandma Maxine Kopp, Mother Sherry (Lavell) Asay, Siblings, Paul Sims, Dave (Andrea) Sims, Scott (Kristin) Sims, Julie (Austin) Sherman, children Jennifer Elvin, Brandan (Krisy) Lundstrom, Ashley Shelton, Kaitlind (Colden) Stubbs, Deon (Ashley) Shelton, 4 nieces, 8 Nephews and 12 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father William Sims, brother-in-law Lisle Lundstrom, and many other loved relatives.
