Jacqui Betts

Our beautiful mother, sister, daughter, friend, Jacqueline Samuels "Jacqui" Betts, age 56, of Ballard, passed away November 27, 2015, at the Uintah Basin Rehabilitation Center after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
She was born, fighting for her life because of Turner Syndrome, on December 30, 1958, in Garden Grove, CA, to John Edward "Jack" and Patsy Rae Massey Samuels. She grew up the first seven years in California, then moved to Vernal where she attended school and to Roosevelt in 1976, graduating from Union High School in 1977. She attended college in Roosevelt as well.
She married Phillip Betts on May 3, 1979, and they later divorced. Out of that marriage, however, came the pride and joy of her life, her son, Corbin. She also was very happy with helping raise her sister, Carrie's, four sons, whom she considered her own.
Jacqui worked for many years at the Uintah Basin Medical Center and the Sr. Villa in the laundry department. She was well liked by her co-workers and everyone she met. Although health problems challenged her her entire life, she never took a sick day unless it was for something major - she was a very strong woman.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings. Her true gift was teaching, which she shared as a primary and relief society teacher, and also as a reading tutor.
One of her greatest joys was seeing Corbin serve an LDS mission, and she took pride in all of her family's accomplishments. She will be greatly missed.
Jacqui is survived by her son, Corbin, of Ballard; mother, Patsy (Max) Rasmussen; brothers and sisters, Reid (Ruth) Samuels, both of Vernal; Carrie (Shane) Reary, Roosevelt; Lori Samuels (Lee King), Erie, CO; Eddy (Jodi) Samuels, Lehi; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Samuels; step-father, Grant Gerber; and grandparents, Ren & Wilda Samuels, Roy & Edna Massey; and nephew, Brandon Charles Haynes.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 1st, at 11:00 a.m., at the Ballard LDS Chapel. There will be a viewing on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and on Tuesday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the Maeser Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.hullingermortuary.com
The family wishes to thank the kind caregivers at the Uintah Basin Rehabilitation Center, Hospice, and her many friends.
