Irene Edith Getchell

  Irene Edith Allen Getchell, age 94, of Duchesne, passed away unexpectedly  December 25, 2022, at the Uintah Basin Medical Center, surrounded by family members. 
    She was born December 11, 1928, in Torquay, England, to John and Beatrice Lales  Allen.  She married Eugene “Ole” Getchell on July 7, 1950, in Torquay, England where they met while he was serving in the US Navy during World War II.  He died May 5, 2000.
    She was a very proud mother of nine children, the youngest being Allen, who was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at the age of four.  She devoted her life to him up until the age of twenty-four when he passed.  She always enjoyed her grandkids and great-grandkids and was always full of hugs and love for them.
    If you knew Irene, you had a friend for life.  Everyone she met was someone special to her.  She loved her morning coffee visits with her daughters.  She enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts, and made many homemade birthday gifts which were cherished by all. 
    Irene is survived by her children, Sheryll Taylor, Duchesne; Perry (Tamela) Getchell, Mountain View, Wyoming; Dale Ann (Danny) Hoyt, Dickenson, North Dakota; Alaina Rasmussen, Stansbury Park; Tammy (Richard) Ivie, Duchesne; Karen Batchelor, Duchesne; Annette (Danny) Memmott, Vernal; Sheila Mezenen, Winnemucca, Nevada; 30 grandkids, 86 great-grandkids, 8 great-great-grandkids, her best friend, Alma Helms and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Ole; her son, Allen; granddaughter, Kallie Young; sons-in-law, Duane Taylor, Rex Rasmussen, Mike Mezenen, and four brothers. 
    Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Duchesne Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, 901 N 500 E.  There will be a viewing from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
    Burial will be in the Duchesne Cemetery.
