Glen Hershel Iorg, age 92, of Bluebell, passed away September 8, 2016, at the Veteran's Hospital in Salt Lake City.
He was born October 13, 1923, in Upalco, to Claude Hershel and Irene Potts Iorg. He was the fourth in a family of 11 children and there was always plenty of work to do growing up in the 1930s and 1940s. He married Donna Hansen on April 25, 1943, in Duchesne, but had to leave her the following year to serve in World War II. She died of cancer on November 22, 1974, leaving him a widower for 42 years.
Glen received the Purple Heart for a bullet wound that left him so badly injured that doctors predicted he might never walk again, fortunately he proved them wrong.
He bought his first farm in 1952, it consisted of 40 acres in Altonah. After 14 years he moved to the farm he now owns in Bluebell. Glen was recognized for his lifetime as a cattlemen with the Duchesne County Cattlemen's Old Timer Award. Later in life, he was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in the Vernal LDS Temple. He was a strong man and hauled the last crop of hay and cleaned out the barn just days before his death. He was a rancher to the end!
Glen is survived by his children, Glenna Murray, Salt Lake City; and Don (Ann) Iorg, Bluebell; 5 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Milton Iorg, Roosevelt; a sister Myra (Lynn) Mitchell, Salt Lake City, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; parents, Claude and Irene; and 8 siblings.
