Gwen Case Sprouse, age 97, passed away peacefully January 27, 2025 at the Beehive home in Naples.
She was born March 30, 1927 in Mt Emmons, Utah to Floyd Henry and Edith Goodrich Case. She married Harold “Kelly” Winters Sprouse December 29, 1947 in the Manti LDS Temple.
At an early age she learned strong work habits working on the family farm that was their livelihood. At age 17, during World War II, she served her country working in a factory in Clearfield.
She taught the value of education and lifelong learning by graduating with a bachelors degree while teaching school and raising a family, several times taking her children away with her for the summer to attend classes and to do course work.
Gwen taught second grade and kindergarten for 19 years at W. Russell Todd School (now Eagle View) and Roosevelt Elementary. She was an artist. Her paintings won awards and were exhibited in the community.
Gwen was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fulfilling many church callings and serving in the temple with her husband. Together they served a mission in Atlanta, Georgia.
She is survived by a sister, Gayle Durney of Broomfield, Colorado; children, Susan (Ralph) Dart, Vernal; Shelley (Larry) Nielsen, Roosevelt; Laurie (Steve) Ames, Altonah; Tom Sprouse, St. George; and Keith (Lori) Sprouse, Vernal; daughter-in-law Mohea Sprouse, Tooele; 25 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Keith Case, sisters, Ruth Madsen, Deane Parker, Peggy Morrell, granddaughter Lacey Ames, and grandson Russell Dart.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roosevelt LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, 250 W. 200 N. Friends and family can call at the chapel at 10:00 a.m. prior to services.
Interment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park.
