Gloria Fay Thompson, (Bear Woman Qwiyuaguht Mahmuch), age 66, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at her home in Ft. Duchesne.
She was born April 21, 1950 at the Ft. Duchesne Hospital to Tommy and Lucille McCook Thompson.
She graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education in 1979.
She married Dennis D. Arrowgarp on December 5, 1970 in Vernal, they later divorced. She married Andrew Norton, they also later divorced.
She taught at Todd Elementary, West Jr. High and spent the last 21 years of her teaching career at Union High School where she taught Ute Language, Ute History and Ute Arts and Crafts. She retired in 2014. Gloria served on the Ute Tribe Education Board for many years. She was very passionate about teaching. She cherished her Ute culture. She thought everyone should know where they came from, understand the history, and have pride of their Ute Nation. She touched many lives in many ways.
She loved to Bear Dance and would share with everyone she could about the importance and meaning of the dance. She cherished the fact that it was the only original dance of the Utes. She had a wonderful love for her people and wanted the best for them.
She had many loves, but none more important and dear to her than the Gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong testimony and shared her testimony with all that would listen. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and family, the holidays being some of her favorite times, hosting her family dinners and spending time with them.
She is survived by her children, Regina (Kyle) Mandan, Ft. Duchesne; Tommy D. Arrowgarp, Massachusetts; Rachael D. Arrowgarp (Bernardo Garcia), Roosevelt; a niece that she raised as a daughter, Renia (Troy) Thompson, Roosevelt; brother, Lance Thomspon, Sunshine Acres; grandchildren, Anthony Shane Redfoot, Samuel Willie, Giacinta George, Bailey Willie, Allison Mable Arrowgarp, Zoey Thompson, Abigail Thompson, AnaLia Daniela Arrowgarp and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Willis Thompson, Walter Thompson, Larry McCook, Willard Thompson, Fredrick Tim Thompson, Thomas Kent Thompson, Sisters, Bernelle Arrive Roundy, Judy Thompson, grandchildren, Mateo Onofre, and Moises Onofre.
Funeral services held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Roosevelt East Stake Center. A viewing will be held at the church that morning 1 hour prior to the service. A wake will be held after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at her home on the Whiterocks Road. Burial in the Randlett Cemetery.
