GERALD ASHCRAFT

Gerald Lamar Ashcraft, age 76, of Neola, passed away April 9, 2016, at St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City.
He was born March 26, 1940, in Oak Grove, Louisiana, to Sydney and Rosa V Sanders Ashcraft. He married Nell Kyle and they later divorced. He married Barbara Jean Oberhansly on February 24, 1985, in Neola.
Gerald worked as a mud engineer in the oil field since he was 18 years old, retiring just last June from EOG Resources. He really enjoyed his work and was known for wearing his bib overalls everyday and everywhere. He had a great sense of humor and loved talking with everyone - he never met a stranger! He helped anyone who asked and was good to all.
His children and grandchildren were the most important things in his life, and he was also a good father figure to many foster children.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Neola; son, Richard Ashcraft, ; daughters, Mindee (Jorge) Rubio, Harker Heights, TX; Cindee Freestone, Neola; grandchildren, Chad Gault (Heidi Dean), Vernal; Mitch (Shalee) Freestone, Vernal; Bailee Freestone (Heston Allred), Neola; Zach & Isabel Rubio, Texas; a brother, Ronald "Reek" (Daisy) Ashcraft, Oak Grove, LA; a nephew, Tommy Ashcraft; and many other adopted and very special grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his son David Ashcraft; brother, Thomas Ashcraft; and his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 16, at 11:00 a.m., at the Neola LDS Chapel. Viewings will be held at the church on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Neola Cemetery under direction of the Hullinger Mortuary. Condolences may be shared at www.hullingermortuary.com
