Gary N. Shields, age 80, of Bridgeland, Utah, the husband of Thelma Lamb Shields, peacefully slipped out to greet others passed before him on Friday, December 11, 2020.
Gary was born on November 8, 1940, the first of a set of twins in Roosevelt, Utah, to Marvin Wanless and Ilenna Nielsen Shields. They lived in Arcadia, Utah, and later moved to Bridgeland.
He would often express fond memories of summers spent playing and working with cousins from the Nielsen and Ross families. He met the love of his life, Thelma Dawn Lamb on the school bus where he introduced himself by pulling her braids. He became very close with the Lamb family, and best friends with her many brothers. They were married on August 23, 1957, in Bridgeland, Utah on the homestead. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 27, 1960. He served as Ward Clerk in the Bridgeland Ward and served in the Scouting program. During his life, he worked in the Coal and Gilsonite Mines, Oilfield and G&L Motors Chevrolet. Later, he and Thelma purchased the family homestead where they ranched, raised cattle and built a dairy farm. He took great pride in the farm and was very particular about everything. He had a love of animals and birds, especially his little dogs whom he loved dearly.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor. His motto must have been to be humble and kind, as he lived this every moment, every day of his life. We will miss his sweet smile.
Gary is survived by his wife Thelma; daughters, Toni Rae (Jay) Bolton, Cindie Kae (Dean) Gilbert, Julie (Mervin) Glines; a son, Juan Gary (Teresa) Shields; grandchildren, Jaclyn (Chris) Floyd, Jennifer (Lance) Tree, Devan M.
