Franklin Peterson

Franklin Dean Peterson, age 83, passed away December 21, 2015 after a long battle with MRSA staff infection at the Sr. Villa.
Frank was born September 26, 1932 and grew up in Myton, Utah. He was the youngest of eight children born to Hazel Miranda and Joseph Ole Peterson.
Frank was an athlete. He loved baseball. As a young man he played with his older brother-in-laws and nephews as teams from throughout the Uintah Basin gathered each Sunday afternoon during the summer at the old Myton ballpark to compete in America's oldest pastime. As summer turned to fall Frank traded his baseball cleats for basketball shoes, often hitching a ride to Roosevelt to practice and play for Roosevelt High School. He later played for Dixie Jr. College and Snow Jr. College. A memorable highlight of his athletic career was playing in the All Church M-Men Basketball Tournament at the George Albert Smith Fieldhouse on the campus of Brigham Young University. He played on three semi-final teams, the last of which was in 1964 for the Roosevelt 3rd ward, his home ward for the next 51 years.
Frank married Marilyn Anderson December 13, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised 4 boys, Michael, Robert, Richard and Marc. Frank was most comfortable outdoors and enjoyed taking his family camping, fishing and hunting, especially pheasant hunting. One of his favorite pastimes was driving his truck, with his dog in the back, across the back roads of the basin.
After retiring as a heavy equipment operator Frank purchased property near Mosby Mountain where he cleared sagebrush, planted trees and installed underground utilities (all dug by hand) to build a "campground" for his posterity. His love for the mountains, and a desire to leave a lasting legacy for his family, was realized on this piece of land.
Frank is survived by his wife of 59 years, sons, Michael (Sheri) Peterson, Robert (Anne) Peterson, Richard Peterson, Marc (Karlene) Peterson, 14 grandchildren and 5 great granddaughters. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jean Bingham (Dick), along with other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Roosevelt East Stake Center at 1:00 p.m. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 11:00 - 12:40.
Burial in the Roosevelt Memorial Park with military honors presented by the Roosevelt American Legion and Utah National Guard.
